asics Men's GT-2130 Running Shoe

I haven't owned a pair of ASICS for some time. The ASICS GT 2130 is a great shoe! I just ran on them for the first time, an easy 30 min around the neighborhood...my wife asked me, 'How were they?' - I told her, 'They are like the Volkswagen Passat, 90% of the performance of an Audi A4 or BMW 3 series, but at almost 40% less the cost!' - In other words - they are great and they do everything very VERY well. They are stable- but yield just enough, they are responsive - but not out of control, and they are comfortable - but not overly so. Maybe the ASICS Nimbus 9 or Brooks Trance 7 do these things a little bit better, but at 15-20 mi per week tops, and not a marathoner, why pay the extra$$. I should say my current shoe is the Nike Air Volermo, which is nice, but not as responsive on the pavement as the ASICS.

Pros - price, performance, styling (the orange color is killer)
Con - the toe box feels 'wide' or loose when just standing around, but this was not evident when actually running.

I bought this shoe (Asics GT-2130) because i have a slight pronation in my foot and i was hoping this would correct it. however, i've noticed increased strain on my knees since running in them. it also strains my calf muscles in places (towards the front and sides, which i guess are not really the calf?) i've never felt strain from jogging, but i guess that's just muscle development, which is a good thing. also, be warned, the fit is a little larger than most other shoes in the toe area. it's snug everywhere else, but my toes feel like they're just swimming around down there--maybe Asics are made for people with extra wide feet? or maybe you just have to order down a 1/2 size from what you would normally wear. on the positive side, the styling is great.

Great shoes! I have wide feet and very few shoes fit me. These fit beautifully and are comfortable for running and just general walking. I have used Asic shoes for many years and have always been very happy with them as long as I could find 4E versions. Thank God for online shopping.

This (Asics GT-2130) is a just-out-of-production (2008) model of a very popular line of running shoes produced by a very reputable company, and there are still many new pairs available at reduced price on the market. I benieve many runners share my habit of buying last year's model at 30-40% discount, so am writing this for those who do the research.

Each pair of feet and gait are different, so it makes much more sense to disclose my condition for your comparison. I am a recreational runner and average 25-30 miles per week, mostly on a treadmill. I am 5'10" and 168 lb, and belong to the the majority of runners with normal arch and mild overpronation. I loved Asics GT-2110 (great stability and roomy toe box) so much that I bought four pairs of them for training and long distance road races. Knowing how difficult it is to find a pair of suitable running shoes, I searched for long to find its replacement. Asics GT-2130 has received good reviews, but one never knows whether these reviews actually apply to one's own feet.

By now, I have run in my first pair of Asics GT-2130 for about 150 miles (20% on asphalt, 80% on treadmill) and found two very specific deficiencies - (1) small toe box, and (2) weak forefoot cushion. My conclusions were drawn from comparison with its predecessor - GT-2110. I developed black toenails (subungual hemorrhage), blisters on and behind toes, and pain in medial aspect of ball of foot (metatarsalgia) in GT-2130. At first I thought I rushed to long runs in the new pair, but these problems continued after they have been well broken in. With a scheduled marathon coming up, I switched back to a pair of my old GT-2110 and these problems went away. I felt and inspected the insoles of the two and saw the small but definite difference.

If your running feet are prone to blisters on toes, black toenails and metatarsalgia, I would advise you to pass on Asics GT-2130. Don't be mistaken, I love Asics and still regard its many products the best there are. But I am convinced that the forefoot design of GT-2130 was worse than that of GT-2110. I hope this is just a 2130-related issue and the update (GT-2140) is much better, but I have yet to try them to find out.

Runners - Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.

This shoe was recommended to me about eight or nine years ago when I was told about my overpronation (flat feet). I have never run in another shoe since then and usually buy two pairs at a time so I can alternate a pair each month. I run about six miles a week these days.

I had a job where I worked for six hours a day with a 20 minute break and the the rest of the time I was on my feet! I started out wearing a pair of old basketball shoes but I soon found out that was not a smart decision. After only a few days I noticed when I got home that I had achy feet and lower back pain like no other. So I went to my local shoe store and said show me the most comfortable shoe you guys have and they brought me the Asics, nikes, rebooks, and the north face. All of which were of the same design but the Asics hands down are the most comfortable. I feel so much better after a long day of work when I wear these.

I purchased my first pair of these shoes on sale at our local running store and liked them so much that I wanted to order a second pair. The store indicated that these shoes were being discontinued and they could not purchase additional stock. I went on line and found a pair at Amazon. Amazon's response and delivery was excellent.

I don't know why the shoe manufacturers refuse to continue offering a good product when they have one but it seems to be an industry standard to discontinue a shoe line after a specified amount of market time exposure irrespective of their market acceptance. Therefore, if you do find a good fit for your use and activity level, I suggest you consider purchasing a second pair and either store them or alternate use of both pair of shoes.

This is my second pair of ASIC Shoes and the brand generally seem to fit my feet very well (11.5 EEEE)... so I love them... would recommend to anyone, but try them on somewhere to make sure they fit your particular foot... this model was close to $100 at DFW, so this pair was a deal from an Amazon partner at $58 (probably because the GT-2140 is out)...

great shoes, comfortable and all. just use them for walking around town, but they've been great. i had some problems finding shoes that fit according to size but these are good in that regard.

Shoes seem to be good value for the price...I suppose time will tell, but the order was great.
