M-edge Executive Jacket for Amazon Kindle First Generation (Brown) - ALL Sales Final

This is a well designed and well made leather item nicely stitched. The Kindle is impossible to hold without setting off its side bars that turn the pages so this cover is essential just to hold the Kindle for comfortable reading and carrying around. Additionally, the protection it offers against briefcase abrasion, crushing and dropping is another benefit.

I purchased the darker brown because I think its the least attractive one. That's because I expect all the other readers in my household will want me to purchase Kindles for them when they see mine when they all get back from travels this summer and each will want their own colors -- so I took the worst for myself.

The ample width soft and flexible spine creates an inch wide leather strip at the left side when the cover's front is folded all the over to the back. For me, this forms the principle grip on the device when reading and also for carrying around the house open and even for just picking up the Kindle without setting off a page turn. The cover's leather closure strip that extends out from center right when the cover is folded back forms a little right-hand grip. Without these features of this leather cover, the Kindle is really annoying to handle. The cover supplied with the Kindle does not offer the same grip advantage.

The cover's wide spine, however, is too wide even when the cover's inside pockets are holding a pad of paper (it will hold a 5 x 8 in. pad) plus a pen or pencil is in its holder inside the spine. This too-large width of spine makes the cover a bit floppy when closed. I have no need to insert a pad of paper so I inserted a similar sized sheet of soft Ethafoam to take up the slack in the spine. But I can live with this large floppy width in exchange for the useful grip all that extra leather provides.

Its true that the beautifully crafted and tough leather corners that hold the Kindle are initially a little bit of a tight fit. But because leather stretches with use, that fit is actually perfect. The upper right corner is a leather strap with elastic ends. I usually leave this off so that I can get to the Kindle's tiny switches with my fat fingers. The Kindle stays tight in its holders using just the remaining three.

The soft light gray leather inside seems a bit thin and weak and developed sags from its stretching after a week. The light color also got grimy looking in the same time frame.

I can't wait for the outside of my cover to get as well-worn as my leather briefcase. Maybe they will offer in the future a pre-worn bomber pilot leather jacket for the Kindle.

If the company would produce it, I would buy from them a $350.00 tooled Western saddle cover with my name gold stamped inside. Should I also expect to eventually see an Eddie Bauer Edition?

I love the "M-edge Excutive Case" for my Amazon Kindle Device! I've had it about a month now and feel the "M-edge Excutive Case" fits my Kindle Device nicely & more securely than the original case which comes with the Kindle Device.

The original case that comes with the Kindle doesn't seem to hold the device securely enough for my taste. I was always concerned that my Kindle would fall out of its original case.... In fact, it did a couple of times, which is what prompted me to acquire this item.

I have been using this new cover for about a week, and I find it most acceptable. The one that came with my Kindle was nice, but the 'book' kept falling out, and the battery cover on the back would come loose. This cover has held it in place PERFECTLY. I would definitely recommend it.

I just got this product today in the mail. I had ordered it because my Kindle fell out of it's original case and hit my concrete patio deck with a big THUD and the back flying off! Luckily it still works but I instantly went on the Kindle forum and asked for suggestions on a secure cover. Almost all of the replies were for the leather M-Edge. I ordered it from Amazon as soon as I left the forum.

It is all they said it would be. It's attractive, has a great professional style, all leather and holds the Kindle like a custom made glove. I even tested it by putting my Kindle in it and swinging it around (over my bed of course). It stayed secure! It is almost impossible for the Kindle to fall out. Not only does it have four SNUG corner 'holders'(made entirely of leather) but it has an outside flap lock that seems impossible for the Kindle to slip or slide by.

The cover is also very light weight so if you enjoy reading the Kindle with the cover on, you will have no problems and you know how soft real leather is,so you get the added bonus of it feeling good in your hand.

I almost forgot to mention that inside the cover is a place for your pen, business cards or whatever small notes you might need to take with you.

I highly recommend this product! Not a bad price to pay for knowing your Kindle is safe, secure and lookin' good.

Let me start off by saying that this cover isn't bad - it certainly is more secure than the cover that comes with the Kindle. But it's not that much of an improvement.

Positives -
1) It keeps the Kindle more secure than the standard cover, which is a big plus.
2) It's easier to hold the Kindle when reading, and you can fold back the cover.
3) It's got nifty little compartments on the inside cover that can hold papers and notes.

Negatives:
1) Those nifty little compartments I described above are pretty small and limited.
2) It takes a little effort to get the Kindle secured inside, which is a good thing as far as keeping the Kindle. from falling out - but the bad part is that you have to take it out to reach the back for the controls.
3) Here's the biggest negative for me - it just looks cheap, and not a big aesthetic improvement over the original cover.

I really, really like my Kindle. When I'm reading I often forget not holding an actual book in my hand, which something really surprised me since I was so dubious about ebooks.

But here's the thing, I would just love to get a beautiful cover for my Kindle that would make it secure and easy to hold, and at the same time, be a little bit more aesthetically like a real book.

This isn't it. But recommended if you don't care as much about this, and are mainly looking for something practical to hold the Kindle.

The Kindle 1, when released, had a few challenges associated with keeping it safe, secure and protected. The cover supplied by Amazon was really inadequate. This review is for the Brown color that I purchased for my own use. (I have also reviewed the camel colored cover that I purchased as a gift for my sister.) This color is a nice deeper brown that simulates the look and feel of leather quite effectively. I think it's really quite attractive and looks good in my leather handbag/tote.

The M-Edge cover provides greater security for the K1 as there are 3 leather corner slots and an elastic "bungee" corner band to secure the device in place. The cover itself is fairly rigid and should protect the unit if dropped from a short distance.

One of the things I wish this product had is a padded area for the very fragile screen. To tell you just how fragile the screen actually is, my nephew rested his elbow on my sister's Kindle, while it was in the original black case, and ruined the screen! This cover does not offer any additional built-in padding to provide more screen security. However, when the item was shipped, a thick sheet of black foam had been slipped inside the cover to simulate the K1. I trimmed this sheet of foam down slightly and inserted it into the large pocket sewn into the cover flap and now I have excellent protection for the screen of my K1! I'm so glad I did not throw away that thick piece of foam! The reason I took away 1 star was due to this lack of protection and because it's a bit of a tight squeeze to reach the control switches on the back of the K1 while the cover is on (and I've got skinny fingers).

In addition to the large pocket, there are several other pockets including 2 specifically designed to house additional SD memory cards. There's a pen loop that I would never use (I don't want anything hard like a pen to be held up against the side of my fragile K1).

The covering is a pseudo-leather and is really quite soft. I like the closure in that when I open the case to read, I can secure the case shut by slipping the tab into the slot from the back very easily. The cover is also fairly inconspicuous. When closed, it looks like any other "leather journal" in existence and doesn't scream "Expensive Electronic Gadget!!" to the world. This is great as I have heard numerous stories about Kindles being stolen.

I also liked the fact I could use my Prime membership to get this item delivered to me very quickly for free. (I strongly encourage other vendors to emulate the practice of sending in a sampling of your wares to Amazon for their warehouses to fulfill.) It would also have been eligible for free regular ground delivery via the Super Saver Shipping program.

Pockets inside are very handy and so is the pencil holder. Very attractive, holds Kindle very securely.

As wih others, I wasn't satisfied with the plain black cover that came with the Kindle 1. It was a class act new product and I wanted a cover suitable for this great new product. The M-Edge was it. I searched for several days before deciding on the tan, bumpy, soft leather cover. It was perfect then and it still is. It looks classy, is very well made. and protects my Kindle.

The only demerit I gave it was in not having a small, unobtrusive, rectangular window on the back of the cover, over the on/off controls, so one could use those switches without lifting the cover [a detractor from a first class product,IMHO]. I used an exacto knife and carefully cut a 1" by 1,2" [if you have large fingers you may need to make it a little larger] window from the inside, down to, but not cutting the leather outer cover, just exposing it. I knew it would work because I had done the same thing with the included black case. I then removed the little window cutout, leaving only the outer leather cover below. I then carefully cut an X slit from corner to corner of the leather in the opening, folded the triangles to the inside of the opening, and secured it with a tiny dab of super glue on the 4 raw edges of the inside of the window, by inserting my finger from the outside and pushing the leather tabs up so they stuck to the edges, only removing my finger after the glue held it securely. I then trimmed, from the inside, the tips of the triangles that projected past the edge. It worked perfectly. I could then, use the switches with my fingernail thru the little window. It worked so well I emailed Amazon and told them the windows should be precut at the factory...they didn't listen they just upgraded it and moved the switches. I still prefer my Kindle 1, because with an 8 gig SD card, I can download up to 8,000 books and never have to delete any to create more space. What's not to like! The Kindle is a winner.

My Kindle is 1/4" taller than than the M-edge. After struggling 15 minutes to get the Kindle in the jacket I was disappointed to see that the Jacket is SMALLER then the Kindle!

I will try to return it, but the description stated all sales final. I may be stuck with it, but I will NOT be using it!

I was having trouble with my Kindle falling out of the case that came with it, so I purchased this one and am really glad I did. It holds my Kindle very securely and is very comfortable to hold while reading. I like the pockets on the inside of the cover too and am using the larger one for holding my screen cleaning cloth.
