5 out of 5 stars Just Plain Good!
32 people found this review helpful.
Of all the magazines, this one has the best layout.

Whether you are looking for the latest news on your favorite star or are looking for a new recipe...this magazine has it all.

You know how many magazines say: "Oh, we are going to tell you about...." And five minutes later, you are still looking for "that" article. Well, in this magazine they have a great Contents page with a special: "On the Cover" section. So, if you want to read about Nicole Kidman she is on page 110! OK, that was in the November 2001 issue and it is quite a sad article. What ever happened to the fairy tale? I just don't know...

Now, if you love reading about other people who are making the news, the People section always has something fun to read about. Fashion and beauty gives ideas on the latest nail color or makeup tips. The articles on relationships are interesting.

This magazine also has sections for: Health & Well Being, Consumer Sense, The Better Way, Food & Home, Fiction, Departments and Columns. The TECH section is always of interest. There is a definite focus on women, as in: "The Best Cell Phones for Women." Plus, this is where you can find Heloise giving out the newest Household Tips.

My favorite page is the looks, trends, and news page where they always give you ideas for holidays or feature beauty products like Pumpkin Pie body wash in November. The recipes are often multicultural and you can find anything from Lebkuchen to Pavlova with Passion Fruit Sorbet.

In my top 10 of favorite magazines!

4 out of 5 stars Just want one and this is it
20 people found this review helpful.
I have received "ladies'magazines" for many years and keep coming back to GH. I am 57, single, have little reading time for pleasure and little interest in or time for walking through stores to keep up with products, new ideas, etc for women. I don't' even spend much time on the net for this information. I like GH's reputation for quality (GH Seal of Approval and assessment of products), the price (it requires ads to sell the magazine at this low price in today's market; GH passes some on to the customer by keeping the subscription cost low), and the timeliness and the variety of topics interesting women. And I enjoy the tidbits of celebrity information without excessively intimate details of their personal lives that have no impact on the reason I enjoy their performances/talent. It's the only "overall" magazine of this kind that addresses things I want to know about on a consistent basis without becoming the same every month, which is something I don't like about many other periodicals. I also enjoy the ads; otherwise, I would never know of foods, beauty aids, cooking techniques and equipment, fashions, shoes, books, etc. I look forward to getting my GH. When topics greatly interest me, I cut and file them. Also, when I finish with one while flying, I can always find another woman who is happy to take it on their flight.
As some of the youngsters say today, "It's all good!"

3 out of 5 stars middle of the road magazine
11 people found this review helpful.
This is a "return" of Redbook and a pictorial "Reader's Digest." The stories are about interesting people and are well-written, but not deep. I can read the whole thing in one hour. I subscribed for house decorating and garden advice, but the magazine emphasizes health and beauty. I intend to look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars I love this magazine!
14 people found this review helpful.
Good Housekeeping is a wholesome, clean, serious magazine. Various topics that may be found in an issue - how to raise children, household tips, financial help, or marriage advice - suggest that the magazine is geared towards the middle-aged to the older woman. I'm married and only in my 20s, but I still get so much out of reading the articles and advice anyway.

I absolutely love this magazine! I was looking for a magazine with good, long articles to read, and I found this great one. They even re-designed the look, and it's excellent. Everything is more organized, clearly separated into their respective sections, and each page is clearly marked with the section header so I'll always know which section I'm on.

I particularly enjoy the articles about real-life triumphs and tragedies, Talk to Me by Joy Behar about relationship advice, and Peggy Post's Etiquette Dilemmas.

4 out of 5 stars 2.50 Cover Price, Do Your Math!!!
10 people found this review helpful.
Ok, Amazon has it at 10.00 as of Feb 2004, and the cover price is 2.50 Enough said right there. But let me inspire you further, Amazon's price is even cheaper than directly from the publisher!!! OK, as for the magazine itself, this is another one my mom likes to read and which I find myself checking out from time to time. Good Housekeeping has existed for many years and is ranked 5th in the USA for sales! It has a circulation of over 4,000,000. It covers an array of topics including: food, fitness, beauty, child care, money management, health news, travel, and human interest stories. This is a magazine that would be great for any homemaker (is that one word or two?) If you are a parent or someone who has their own place, this magazine could be a big benefit to you. It's main aim is at women, though many men read it for its insightful articles.

2 out of 5 stars I don't learn anything!
10 people found this review helpful.
I ordered this because I wanted a magazine that was all around, something like Martha Stewart, but not too high browed and undo-able. However, I've gotten 2 magazines already and I feel that it's kinda worthless. I don't get enough recipes. I don't get enough relevant articles. I think the magazine's articles are too general and I just don't like the articles too much. I would say that I got what I paid for - basically nothing.

5 out of 5 stars Good Reading
4 people found this review helpful.
If I had to pick just one women's magazine to subscribe to, "Good Housekeeping" would be the one. It has many of the same articles that all women's magazines have: articles on health, fitness, finance, relationships, diet, beauty, and fashion. But "Good Housekeeping" goes beyond the surface in these articles, for example, their fashion articles don't focus just on high-priced clothing, instead they show outfits that look like their expensive counterparts that readers can buy for just a fraction of the cost. There are also advice columnists on things like household hints, etiquette, and relationships. Each issue also has a short story. There's also the seemingly obligatory celebrity on the cover and interview inside each issue.

What I like about "Good Housekeeping" are the in-depth articles. Most magazines today publish articles that are only a page or so long, but many articles in "Good Housekeeping" are several pages long. The articles are often about ordinary people making a difference in the world. There are usually cautionary articles for parents with young children and/or teenagers that can be frightening (a recent article was about a sexually abusive male babysitter) but very useful. As with many magazines, Good Housekeeping also has an on-line counterpart, where readers can post messages about current issues as well as enter contests.

Well worth subscribing to.

5 out of 5 stars A must read!!!
4 people found this review helpful.
With great advice and timely articles for women, Good Housekeeping is a must read! From Dear Heloise to Short Stories, GH has it all. Recent changes, in the past year, due to a new editor have kept GH fresh and constantly up-to-date. Articles are geared to young and old alike, working Moms, to women-in-general. I'm not a fan of cooking, yet its recipes are easy to prepare, and I always find at least one my family loves in each issue!

4 out of 5 stars Will Save You the Subscription Price in Tips
4 people found this review helpful.
I subscribe to Good Housekeeping because the magazine is full of consumer advice and tips, that alone has saved me well over the cost of the magazine.

Good Housekeeping is a trusted name that tests and reviews products making their own suggestions, giving them the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

I have received so many good savings websites and tips that I keep subscribing just to save money.

2 out of 5 stars Same boring things, again and again
29 people found this review helpful.
There is nothing in the least stimulating for the mind or creativity here. I found most of what was in this very cliched. It seems the plan is the same every month - the "follow the ADA food pyramid," "put your food on a saucer to think it is substantial," "get more exercise," "I survived cancer," and so forth. It is half "positive thinking," but otherwise a denial that anyone has a mind, heart, or soul. The feature articles are very poor quality, such as the Elizabeth Post quasi-etiquette, wherein one may not share news of an event with friends without saying "no gifts please," and friends are looking for others to meddle in their lives (what is polite about having a friend who wonders if her dress fits well being told to go to a gym class?)

The other reviewer who said "not enough" is quite right.
